A Yamaha hp repair manual is slightly different from a service manual, although they mostly contain the same information.
Personally speaking, I generally refer to a service manual as a repair manual. That said, most outboard repair manuals are not model and year specific and can be somewhat vague, especially in regards to component specifications, etc.
Moreover, outboard repair manuals are usually generic in nature. Rather, they cover the basics of outboard repair. An outboard service manual, also termed factory service manual FSM , is a book of instructions that provides exact service and repair details for a specific year or model boat engine. These manuals are often published by the outboard manufacturer and distributed to dealership technicians and your local authorized Yamaha repair shop.
A horsepower Yamaha service manual covers every aspect of repair, from basic scheduled maintenance to complete engine rebuild, and complete machine specifications. A service manual covers it all. If you need to know how to rebuild a carburetor or adjust the idle?
Rounded jaws indicate one or more of the following:. Replace propeller shaft if any of the following exist:. Prop shaft trueness should be measured with a dial indicator with prop shaft on V-blocks. Hold drive shaft using Drive Shaft Holding Tool; remove and discard pinion nut.
Remove drive shaft, pinion gear, pinion bearing and forward gear. Replace pinion gear if it is chipped or worn. Replace pinion bearing and race if either are rusted, pitted or damaged; or if bearing does not roll freely. Replace forward gear if gear teeth or clutch teeth are chipped or worn. Replace forward gear needle bearing if it is rusted or does not roll freely. Use suitable tools screwdriver and awl to remove retaining ring.
Use a punch and hammer to remove bearing. Replace forward gear bearing and race if either are rusted, pitted or damaged, or if bearing does not roll freely. Remove bearing from gear using Universal Puller Plate and mandrel.
Replace drive shaft if splines are worn or twisted. If bearing surface is damaged, replace drive shaft and corresponding bearing. If wear sleeve is deeply grooved allowing water to enter gear case, remove and discard sleeve using Universal Puller Plate and mallet.
Replace upper drive shaft bearing and sleeve if either are rust stained, or if bearing will not roll freely. Remove bearing and then sleeve using Puller Assembly M with suitable jaws.
